The 3 main fibres are;

Nylon: Man made and tough. Suitable for most areas. Very popular due to its variety of colour and styles. Nylons have stain removers applied at construction, making it very easy to clean and maintain.

Wool: 100% natural fibre. Has the best appearance retention of all fibres. No added chemicals for cleaning as it has natural cleaning properties. Has a soft touch even in loop pile construction.

Polypropylene: Synthetic yarn. The cheapest of all three. Very durable and tough. Most popular for rentals or people who want to cover a games room.

3 main constructions of carpet are

Loop pile: good for rental and commercial due to hardwearing construction.

Plush pile: Soft to touch and very clean looking ideal for formal lounges and bedrooms.

Twist pile: Also soft but has a rougher look making it more serviceable.
